Post 19 | Avocados?
What if I don’t like avocados?
That’s fine. Neither do I.
Why does everyone like avocados so much?
Well there are a few reasons -
Healthy fats - unsaturated, creamy fats featured in avocados can be very heart-healthy and help keep us full longer.
Fiber - Despite avocados creamy texture, they are very high in both insoluble and soluble fiber. These types of fiber work together to help bind undigested particles and excrete them from the body.
Calories - Avocados are very high in calories, but, as mentioned before, they are filling and full of fabulous nutrients.
Flavor? Texture? This is the part I do not understand. They feel like eating a flavorless stick of butter, but, give me some guacamole and I can get on board.
Perception - Sometimes I think that people can think themselves into liking something that they perceive as healthy. Which there is absolutely nothing wrong with. Our taste buds change over time to like things that are more spicy, bitter, less sweet, buttery? etc. We also find new ways to eat, and therefore like, new foods.
Other benefits of avocados:
vitamin A
vitamin K
vitamin C
vitamin E
iron
potassium
zinc
manganese
B vitamins (except B-12)
choline
betaine
calcium
magnesium
phosphorus
copper
folate
Depending on where your avocado comes from, it can change the nutrient profile somewhat.
Be cautious of eating too many avocados, especially if you have a latex allergy.
