Post 8 | New Nutrition Facts Label - what you need to know
It is finally here! The new nutrition facts label approved by Congress back in mid 2016 and lobbied to be pushed back until 2019 then 2020 is now law. Honestly, the changes are small but mighty.
First let me share a graphic of the old label and new:
The most striking and important change is the serving size and serving calories designations. The serving sizes, now, are meant to better represent what someone might actually eat instead of 100g or an ambiguous serving size meant to diminish calorie and fat content. This change allows an individual to better understand and estimate what they might be eating.
The other changes are less important but will hopefully allow people to envision what they are putting in their bodies.
Just remember: the most important food you eat does not come with a nutrition label.
See a dietitian if you have a health condition that warrants reading nutrition labels very carefully.
